Liisa M Hirvonen
Liisa Hirvonen works at the Centre for Microscopy, Characterisation and Analysis at The University of Western Australia (UWA). Since obtaining a PhD in Physics in 2008 from King’s College London, she has held several multidisciplinary post-doc positions in Melbourne, Australia (2009-2012) and London, U.K (2012-2019), before joining the UWA as a Lecturer in Optical Microscopy in October 2019.
Liisa’s passion is the development of all kinds of fluorescence microscopy instrumentation for biological applications, with special interest in super-resolution microscopy and fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM). More recently she has been enticed by the molecular mechanics of cell adhesions, and she currently splits her time between a cell biology lab creating fluorescent cells, and a microscopy lab developing new ways to visualise the nanoscale structure and dynamics of these cells.
