Colin Ophus 26th ACMM “2020 Visions in Microscopy”

Colin Ophus

Colin Ophus received his PhD in Materials Engineering from the University of Alberta in Canada. After graduation, he was awarded a Postdoctural Research Fellowship from NSERC Canada, which was used for a joint position between the National Center for Electron Microscopy (NCEM) at Lawrence Berkeley Lab and the Materials Science and Engineering Department at the University of California Berkeley. He then became a project staff scientist at NCEM, later a research scientist, and currently is a staff scientist. Colin works primarily on developing methods, algorithms and codes for simulation, analysis and instrument design for high resolution and scanning transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM and STEM). He also provides computational support to facility users for quantitative analysis of electron microscopy experiments. In 2018, he was awarded a Department of Energy Early Career Award to study the application of Quantum Metrology to Electron Microscopy.
