Pinshane Huang
Pinshane Huang is an assistant professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Her current research is focused around transmission electron microscopy and spectroscopy of two-dimensional materials and soft-hard interfaces. She holds a Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Cornell University and a B.A. in Physics from Carleton College. By developing methods to image 2D materials spanning from micron-scale devices down to their individual constituent atoms, her work made it possible to understand the impact of single defects on the properties of atomic layers. Her research has produced iconic images showing grain boundaries in graphene and 2D semiconductors as well as the structure of 2D silica glass. Her work has been recognized with several awards, including a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), a Packard Fellowship, and a Sloan Fellowship in Physics.
